About Athena Phillips

Athena's career in behavioral health began in 1995, where she began working with developmentally disabled children and adults, which she did for 15 years. She then pursued her bachelor's and master's degree in social work, which she completed in 2003. She worked in an inpatient psychiatric facility and as a medical social worker prior to opening a private practice. She focused her private practice on trauma and dissociative disorders, where it became increasingly clear that more holistic approaches to working with trauma was imperative for real healing. In 2012, Athena founded Integrative Trauma Treatment Center (ITTC) ( please insert link www.traumacenternw.com), which is an outpatient mental health clinic and continuing education provider housed in Portland, OR.

In addition to founding ITTC, The Orenda Project, and working as a mental health therapist, Athena has conducted trainings in various parts of the world. She believes in learning across cultures in effort to expand the lenses through which we define problems and create solutions. She wrote the Multicultural Trauma Training, which was offered in Rwanda over a period of six years. This training included clinicians who work and reside in Rwanda and who learned alongside providers from other parts of the world. She continues to offer courses online as well as in-personal on a local, national, and international level.
