Heart of the Lion: A Skills Workbook for Moving Through Trauma

Trauma is often self-perpetuating, moving seamlessly from one generation to the next. When we experience something emotionally overwhelming, various dimensions of our lives can be affected. Heart of the Lion was created to support survivors in moving through the past with structure and safety in mind and can be utilized by therapists, coaches, and survivors. The title recognizes the commitment, strength, and courage required to disentangle ourselves from the past, to embrace the present, and to intentionally shape our futures.

The Heart of the Lion was written alongside the development of her Trauma Coach Certification course through The Orenda Project, LLC. Inspiration also arose from working with survivors as a therapist, through creating ongoing continuing education courses for mental health providers, and by supporting her team at Integrative Trauma Treatment Center, LLC, which she founded in 2012.

Finally, professional travel to other parts of the world increased her awareness of the global shortage in mental health care workers that exists alongside an ever-growing need. Specialized, accessible, and safe supports are desperately needed throughout the world. Integrative Trauma Treatment Center, The Orenda Project, and now, The Heart of the Lion are innovations designed to expand access to trauma-informed supports.

“Being at the beginning is not ‘better' than being at the end. Every hero has a struggle that starts and ends and sometimes repeats. You are the hero no matter where you are in the process.”
